Yes its working great now - just need to remember NOT to launch the app until after you have rebooted the machine. I also needed to re-copy the shortcut from the admin profile (under which i installed both the software and update) to the users desktop - just making one didnt work - so i copied it into the "all users" desktop.

regards

(I was thinking of "optimal workaround" in terms of a one-time setting in ISA server which prevents the requests from being routed through the proxy. Much like you might need to do for any internal apps that you don't want to be proxied.)

Anyway, we came up with a fix which should not require any settings changes in ISA, so the July update (now downloadable from the HMRC website) should resolve this for anyone still having problems with the Employer CD-ROM and ISA Server.

I'm one of the developers of the HMRC Employer CD-ROM. *ducks* Found this post via Google and wondered if the problem you refer to was on an ISA client PC? If you would be willing to provide some further info in order to improve future editions of the CD-ROM I would be very grateful.

I'm trying to diagnose some issues a few other users of the CD-ROM are having, which all appear to trace back to ISA Server and how it proxies requests (the CD-ROM itself acts as a server bound to a port on localhost, but it seems like these requests still get routed through the ISA Server.)

Possibly in your case removing the cable meant these requests actually stayed at the local machine and thus the CD-ROM started working. Obviously pulling the network cable is a sub-optimal workaround so we would like to try and find the root cause of the problem!

Thanks in advance,
