The question that was asked is why is Windows XP, which has always been a great product, suddenly a "bad" product, so much so that

re: Is Vista just a new and improved whitener ala soap powders, or have things really changed?

Martin,

trust me, we are working on messaging, but have not yet got the info back from our Technology Adoption Partners to give you good messages. The Vista and Office roadshows start soon, which will also have much more engagement for you. There is a whole team working on Vista, Office and Exchange, so I don't have to do it all myself ;-)

Ping me a mail of your opinions and needs and I will put you in touch with the team.

ttfn

OK I have a customer who has a new line of business app.
This app in my opinion is rubbish, it doesn't work on XP. The reason being well, the network is secured. Users don't and will never have Admin permissions.

I spoke to the developers of this package. using the knowledge I have of Vista (and that is not enough yet), but they said oh yes it will work through the UAC without any problems. Asked them if they had tested it, and the answer back was well no not yet???

My customer having spent £1000's on this will not be buying an upgrade or another product to replace it. This means they will end up using XP long after it is retired. I am starting to see more and more of this behaviour. The only customer who have said they will update to Vista/Office 2007 package is still running WIndows 98/Office 2000.

David a lot of you mention have been issues for a long time now, we have overcome them by using third party tools.

I read your comments on the SBSBPI, and to be honest another partner told me last week of somebody looking at Vista, liked it so much went and purchased a Mac.

Comments like this comming from Partners aren't going to help MS, MS need to start behaving like they did this time last year. When they(MS) were trying to engage with partners in SMB space. Seems to be a little quiet on the frontline at the moment.
