My laptop came with a trial version of MS Office 2007 pre-installed. I installed MS Office 97 Pro.

After doing these things the install worked:

1. From Control Panel turned off UAC (User Access Control)

2. From Control Panel un-installed MS Office 2007 trial version.

3. From Control Panel un-installed MS Office 97 Pro. Note this required me to insert my orginal MS Office 97 Pro CD. The MS Office 97 Pro setup program launches which allows you to do a complete un-install.

After the above steps my MS Office 2003 Pro installation went smooth albeit slow and noisy. Microsoft’s heavy copy protection schemes continually slow down and speed up your CD and I believe, read from outside the normal regions on the CD.

I have Vista home edition on my notebook.

I am trying to install Office 2003 (S/T edition), it is giving me file not found errors: Q4561409.CAB not found. Once I got file not found error for E4561412.CAB file.

I checked my CD and see all these files are in the CD.

Also, I uninstalled office 2007 trial version & office activation key tried again but it same error.

I tried checking any office install via msicuu2.exe log too but so far no success in installing Office 2003.

How can I install it? Thanks in advance.

I would start by contacting the manufacturer of the laptop as they should be able to help with media (CDs) / recovery disks etc in some way.

Vista does have a restore function, just search for Restore in the start menu and System Restore should be listed, however the manufacturer might have "helpfully" disabled this function.

Otherwise, there are tools that will add Office 2003 menus to Office 2007 and other items. Do a search for the office 2007 items on this site.

thanks

Well could not find that easily, so just uninstalled 2007(hoping that 2003 would pop up in its place; as it was never uninstalled).

Of course, that did not happen.

She does not remember having an Office 2003 disk.

It is possible to reload back Office 2007 but that defeats what we were trying to do - and that is get Office 2003.

Will Office 2003 come back if she uninstalls Office version 2007?

I’ve recently bought a new 64 bit laptop running Vista. I installed the Office 2003 suite of programs and am having trouble with Access.

Every time I try to open one of my databases I get a 3358 error, “… Cannot open the Microsoft Jet engine workgroup information file.” “You attempted to perform a security-related task, but the workgroup information file (typically System.mdw) required for the task cannot be found.” I’ve done some checking on this, on the internet, seems a fair number of people are also having some trouble with this issue. What I have been able to ascertain is that this has to do with the msjet40.dll file. On a 64 bit system it is located in the C:\windows\syswow64 folder. On my old computer it was located in the C:\windows\system folder. I also know that the wrkgadm.exe file and the system.mdw file play roles in the working of Access. My guess is that Access 2003 doesn’t know to look for the jet file where it is located on this computer, and/or cannot work correctly with the version that I have.

Based on some of the things I’ve been able to find, and my own logic and reasoning (a dangerous thing, I admit) here’s what I’ve tried so far.

1.	I copied the wrkgadm.exe and system.mdw files from the old computer into the C:\program files(X86)\microsoft office\office11\1033 and C:\program files(X86)\microsoft office\office folders, respectfully, since these were the best matches name and location wise to where I copied them from.

2. I believe I downloaded and installed the newest version of msjet40.dll from a Microsoft page I found about this issue, or I already had it. I also followed someone else’s link, who was reporting fixing the same problem, on an Office help forum page on Microsoft, to download and install an earlier version of the msjet40.dll file. When I checked just now I have 3 msjet40 files in 3 different places, all of them are version 4.09704.0, at least one of them should have been an older version, but isn’t (don’t understand that.) The locations of these 3 are now:

•	C:\WINDOWS\system

•	C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64

•	C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-m..-components-jetcore_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_048ebb9ba7b2fc3a

2.	I’ve copied from my wife’s computer the, an XP machine, the versions of msjet40.dll, system.mdw and wrkgadm.exe that are in her C:\Windows\System32 folder, to my own C:\Windows\System32 folder.

None of this has worked. Maybe some or all of these system type files need to be tweaked into the register file in some way or another. That’s something I don’t have any knowledge about. Please Help!!

The problem started when Outlook 2003 does not let Outlook 2007 install. I did some research and found out you can only have one or the other.

I tried to remove the outloo 2003 and it asks me for the source cd. I put it in and then it states that it is not the correct cd.

I doulnloaed Offfice insttalion cleaner (microsoft product) - I select office 2003 - remove and it says that it removed it but it is still in the system wheneve I boot up again

I am going crazy!! Outlook 2003 "eats" the outlook 2007 - and then I cannot run either - and I cannot install Office 2003.

your help is inmensily appreciated.

thanks for taking time to answer my question. but can you please elaborate your solution; i'm a bit rusty in such things. i am trying to use the outlook web access. it even allows me to type in reminders, names of the people the mail is to be sent to, but does not allow me to type the mail.

cheers,

I would strongly trying the product that came out of the online team (where Express came from) - go to http://get.live.com and grab either the whole bunch, or at the least the Live Mail clients.

If this does not work for you, please share why you want Express rather than Live Mail so I can work out a solution.

Thanks
