Just wait a few minutes and then reopen and it will be fine if you activated

All these solutions never seem to work for me. When i re-check the properties dialog box they do not take effect and the read only tab remain the same. I have been using this version now for quite some time and i never had the problem.

Clarissa,

You need to buy the product to get the product key. If this is for personal use I would look to Office 2010 Home and Student Edition as this can be installed on up to 3 PCs and is the lowest cost way to get a legal key.

mines not moving off resources either and but everytime i open ms word, it asks for a product key. could that have anything to do with it? if so, how to i get the product key?

I got that problem with "This modification..." just as the others and I tried the solutions given on this site, but there was no result...I even uninstalled it and installed back and there's the same problem. Do you have any other possible solutions?

i cant click on anything, or type. and i tried everything everyone has said.

i dont really want to buy the software,

and i'm not quite sure where the product key is located? i dont have the cd and it says on the bottom of the laptop that it is there, but apparently it is incorrect.

@Fran,

if the product key does not work then you need to talk to the people who sold you the product and double check with them. You can also phone MS support, but they will push you back onto the supplier. It is possible that they product or key are stolen / fake which can also cause the problem.

"This modification is not allowed because he selection is locked" this frustrate me and delaying me since i really need it for presentation all the programs in micro office is locked and cant open. Cannot open and with all the option given, no success. please help i need to finish my studies this is real mess. even when i open my micro word says the product key i enter is incorrect. pllllllllllllllllease help.

Hi Sanaa Munir, buying the software is ultimately the solution. If you are in education at the moment there are some fantastic offers available. Also, there is always the Home edition of Office that is a much cheaper solution and allows installation on 3 PCs.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else here, but I retained my office word 2007 with the hack thats going around. But a week later, I got "This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked'. I don't want to go out and buy it, so what will the activation do?

Rosalia, THAT WORKED!

I was a bit confused about what "properties section of the Office folder" meant, and as I was tinkering around for a few seconds to figure it out, I found it.

Close Word. RIGHT-CLICK on the "Microsoft Office" folder on your computer (somewhere under Program Files usually, etc.). Select "Properties". DE-SELECT "Read Only". Re-open Word.

Maybe yours will be working, as was mine at this point...? :~)
