I think it is often sold short and people look at other OSs with rose tinted glasses. Part of this is due to past faults of Microsoft who once upon a time did have too many BSODs and where security was not taken

Vista sales are more than off and why Apple always smells of roses ... - Ms Windows On Macbook ♦ Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro News

[...] an interesting post was made today on this site [...]...

The Metasploit blog has some very interesting info on iPhone security! One of my favourite highlights:

"10. Set the real and effective user ID values to zero (super-user). This is a do-nothing in current versions of the iPhone, since all processes run as root, but may become important later on."

This leaves the iPhone completely open to abuse of any kind when an exploit is used.

Now what would be the reaction of the Mac fanboys and the general media if Microsoft had developed a product with such an obvious flaw?!?!?!

iPod - DRM crippled piece of C.R.A.P. Batteries that die after a year or so. Can't get music back off the device, even the content that isn't DRM hobbled.

Not to be prejudiced, some other media player manufacturers, who're not a million miles away, are just as bad!!!

iPhone - Has Apple even heard of UMTS? A latest generation mobile that can't use high speed data services. Seems a shame that the battery technology isn't available to keep it alive for more than a few hours when it is being heavily used.

The difference seems to be the world is more forgiving because Apple stuff looks nice and makes them feel good. Apple is still the underdog to the big bad Evil Empire, so can get away with much of their business practices without the microscope being applied.

However, Vista has got some way to go before it is a truly usable and stable operating system and yes, I've tried it. Actually, I built a system for my parents to try it for me! Many other domestic customers are trying it for me and discovering the issues, bugs and " less desirable features".

Hopefully, SP1 will fix many of the problems and change the recommendation for new systems to be, "Get Vista". Vista has the potential to be a killer version of Windows, here's hoping it fufils that promise.

The only reason we do not immediately moving everone of our Users over to Vista is the learning curve. Most User want to stay with something which they have some knowledge and experience. However, when their PC next needs a replacement they will be 'moved' to Vista without a choice.

I wish I could grow to like Office 2007 in the same way as Vista. The banner header is a pain! With a spread of Users from Office 97 to Office 2003 the last thing I need is a major change to the look and feel of Office. Telephone support is a pain.
