You do not need to install the migration tools onto the destination server. There are documents available on this on teh SBS site.

Hi David

I have recently purchase a new server with upgraded specs than our previous server which is also SBS2008. i would like to migrate data from one server to the other both running SBS 2008. i have installed the migration tool the source server do i have to install it on the destination server too?

Finally made it, a bumpy ride, to uninstall ISA 2004 ...

Used msmvps.com/.../uninstalling-isa-2004.aspx

for guidance.

Yes, I figured it out, and plugged the cable right I think :-). But it did not work and had to roll back.

I happen to have sbs 2003 preminum + ISA I found out this way ... So now I first have to uninstall ISA.

Frans,

You need to remove one cable and disable or remove one of the NICs. Basically your SBS goes from:

- being plugged into your internet router / modem and the other into the lan router

to:

- the router / cable modem being plugged into a firewall (or including the firewall and then plugging into the lan router and the SBS also plugs into the lan router.

Just got your pdf book. I love the macro photo.

Tonight I am going to bring down my sbs2003 server from 2 NIC's to 1. I need to remove a cable ... but it does not say where to put the other :-) sorry, i am just a beginner, but i will figure it out.

it is about how much data. It took about 5 mins to migrate 1/2 GB of data in a migration I did in a workshop the other day.

Do you have any idea how long this should take in a 35 user enivronment? We purchased a new hardward and have Gigabit connections to our switch.

Have you run the migrate users part of the Migration Wizard and can you confirm they are in the SBS OU rather than the standard users OU in AD?

After migrating successfully to sbs 08 from 03, I've noticed that The users migrated into AD do not show up in the SBS Console under users? Do I have to delete and re-create each user?
