Have you been looking at MS CRM, but needed help getting data from your old package into CRM?  Well, Microsoft have released a set of tools that might help.

Have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3D36AC8E-B485-4F0C-9DEC-C9BACBAD1A73&displaylang=en which is the page to download the "Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Data Migration Pack".

This covers importing from Business Contact Manager (smaller business's CRM solution - available as part of Office Small Business Edition or Pro Edition) and also importing from other packages.

Are there migration tools to move (to and) from ACT! ?

I'd guess around 30% of our clients have some CRM (of some description) in ACT! format.  We have a tool to export ACT! to Excel, but it loses the Notes / History tables.

I passed this question on to Simon, our resident CRM expert and this was his reponse - basically - ACT it part of the "anything else" category I mentioned:

The Microsoft CRM 3.0 Data Migration Pack is available for download here. This has tools for migrating data from any data source to Microsoft CRM 3.0, and includes a number of pre-built templates for ACT, Goldmine and Siebel.

The “Entity Overview” worksheet on the “ACT to CRM Mapping” Spreadsheet shows the following mapping of ACT to CRM entities, however never having used this tool I can’t comment on how comprehensive it is.

Activities: Every person involved in a phone call needs a record in the cdf_activityparty table, except for the owner of the activity and the contact or account that the activity is regarding.

Addresses: The Data Migration Framework can migrate up to two addresses for each account and contact. You can migrate more addresses for each by putting them in the cdf_customeraddress table.

I hope this answers the question.
