stdole32.tlb error with excel 2007

I have the same problem that Steve had in his post. Everytime I open Excel I get the stdole32.tlb error and Office starts the reconfigure and install screen. When I cancel, Excel finally opens fine.He said that he copied in David's Dword text and ran it, replacing Word with Excel and that it solve his problem with opening Excel. I would like to know what David's Dword text is and how to use it, and hopefully solve may stdole32.tlb problem. Any help would be appreciated. Pasted below are post of Steve's in Mar 2010.

Whenever I opened Word 2007 I was getting the installer issue and haveing to reconfigure every time. However, your Dword reg fix worked.

configuration office 2007

Yesterday, I installed Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2007.

Everything is running well for general fonctions except for all office programs.

The facts.

Either for Access, Excel, Word and all other office 2007 programs, if I wish to open any one of these programs after clicked on them, a square appears teling; configuration of Office 2007 is setting up; wait till to end. Then we see a progressive toolbar etc. It takes 2-3 min. for setting all.

After that, the program opens then I can work on it.

But also, all my documents & files I already saved before the yesterday installation, make the same thing when I click on each one i.e. the same toolbar appears etc... and I have to wait the finished installation before the doc. open...

Before instaling office 2007, I have office 2003. Is it possible that some fonctions of 2003 version are still in action and that affect the 2007 version?

Please your details and suggestions for repairing that. Thanks in advance.

Hier, j'ai installé Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2007.

Tout va bien pour le fonctionnement de l'ensemble des foctions sauf pour les programmes d'office.

Voici.

Que ce soit pour Access, Excel, Word et tous les autres programmes, Si je désire ouvrir un de ceux-ci, après avoir cliqué dessus, un rectangle m'apparait me disant:

configuration en cours d'Office 2007 et là je vois la barre de progression signalant que le programme s'installe qui prends ± 1-2 min. pour ce faire.

Par la suite le programme s'ouvre et je peux travailler dessus.

Mais aussi, mes fichiers et doc. déjà enregistrés, avant de l'installation d'hier, font la même chose lorsque j'ouvre un de ceux-ci.

C'est forcément dans la configuration et surtout juste une case à cocher pour rétablir car une fois ouverts ces programmes fonctionnement bien.

Pouvez-vous me guider pour réparer cet inconvénient.

Believe it or not, I just purchased your SBS 2008 Migration book - solely for the purpose of obtaining your script bundle for migrating user shares from sbs 2003 to sbs 2008 (In my case sbs 2011) - I had read about this in Susan Bradley's document on sbs 2011 Migration and she had stated it works great for 2011 - It appears that the link provided in the book to download the script bundle is no longer active - Can you provide a new link for this script - I would greatly appreciate it!

Associate a file with either word 2003 or word 2007

Now that I've gotten MS Word 2003 & 2007 to play nicely with each other, I noticed that when I double click on a word file, it defaults to Word 2007. I've gone to the "default programs" area to change this option but 2003 is not available. I've also tried to manually reassociate the individual file with Word 2003. However, unlike other programs you can change the association, Word 2007 is the only one that shows up even when I browse and locate Word 2003. Is there anyway to add Word 2003 to be able to associate a file with it? It seems to work fine and selects the right version when I double click on an Excel file, just not Word. Thanks.

Initial scan to only process root folder of SKyDrive
Folders will start collapsed and you can expand / collapse via the normal [+] next to it. At this point the next folder level down will be scanned and displayed
I will try to add "search" functionality so you can see files that match a keyword
Speed of screen updates will be back on the agenda to be improved
Drag whole group of files - so not just selected files, but also a file group header (eg all updated files)
List view - view the files as a single list with the operation information in a row with the file name and folder name

I've made quite a few changes to this version:

User Interface

Added a First time screen to ensure the product is setup properly and users understand what to do
Added the ability to show all folders or only those with changes in them in the folder list
Further enhanced snapped view
Added menus for Sync and catch up (see below for catchup)
Added a hint on the folder list to explain that double clicking can be used to select a whole folder tree when selecting folders to sync and right clicking (tap and hold on a touch device) will shrink the folder tree
Renamed the settings page to options to avoid confusion between the application settings and the generic Windows 8 settings pane
Added a tool tip to tell people how to select a whole tree for synching when in the folder selection mode (double click a folder and you change the whole sub-tree)

Scanning

I have re-introduced a fast scan feature. It only looks for folders on SkyDrive where the dates have changed. This speeds up the scanning process, however it will not find deleted files, renamed files or files edited with the SkyDrive web applications. This feature is optional, but it speeds up the scans after the first scan by approx. 80%
When clicking into a folder, if it was not fully scanned by fast scan, it is fully scanned to ensure accurate data
An option to show either changed folders only or all folders
Added the "Choose which SkyDrive folders to sync" to the app-bar
You can now click into a folder that is not set for automatic synchronisation and it will be scanned and any changes synchronised

Catch Up

For those users who have copied files from SkyDrive, they will have a different date/time stamp to those stored on SkyDrive. If you are confident that your files are in sync, you can get Sync for SkyDrive to match those with the same file size and mark them as synchronised, so only future changes will be flagged

SBS2008 Remote Web Workplace

Hi All,

I have a problem with my RWW and I’m hoping you can help!

I have a nice little server that’s all set-up and working really well, I have been able to leave my office PC on and then go home and connect via RWW and continue what I was doing, great………………. Until Saturday!

I was working from home as normal when suddenly the PC at work started to shut down (I’m suspecting windows update), due to this I lost my connection. I gave it a while and tried to log back in to but no joy it said the pc I wanted to connect to was switched off or not available.

So I thought I’d see if this was actually true as I also have Teamviewer installed (strictly non-commercial use of course!) Up it popped and sure enough my office PC had rebooted and was waiting for me to log on, I did this via Teamviewer and tried to log on to the office pc again using RWW but still not joy, although it would still let me log on to the server and a number of other PC's

So the following day I rebooted the office pc and tried RWW again - still no joy, RWW still thinks it’s turned off!

Tried to log on to the Office PC from another internal PC - still no joy, RWW still thinks it’s turned off!

Using the Office PC, I thought I’d try the connection the other way so while on the Office PC I logged on to RWW to access the server – worked fine!

In summary I can connect via RWW to any of my work PC’s except my office PC but I can still use my office PC to connect to any of my other work pc’s, I’ve not changed any settings but I do suspect a Windows update related issue but this may be just cos it rebooted my office PC.

I’d be most grateful for any help and advise you can offer.

Server 2003 STD -> SBS 2008 migration

I have been scratching my head for a while, trying to figure out how to achieve this migration without causing too many issues. I have been finding out that the best way is to start from scratch with sbs2008, especially since the current server is only 2003 STD, with NO A/D domain.

I would appreciate any feedback/advice as to which avenue to take, and if any guides are available for this particular upgrade path, that would be very much appreciated.

Inactivity lockout in client XP pc's not working!

In our sbs 2003 domain environment, the clients' pc's inactive for default period will be locked out automatically and only Ctrl+ Alt + Del & client password combination will unlock the client's pcs.

Recently around 9 months before, all our client's pc's joined the new sbs 2011 but (usually all are locking with Win+L key combination manually)the auto lock feature is not working from the beginning onwards. Now only I am brought up with this issue by clients.

Please help me set that option!

In our company we are having one windows sbs 2011 domain controller and around 50 pcs with windows xp professional sp3 and some laptops with windows 7 professional sp2; Antivirus is symantec endpoint protection loaded in separate pc made server and all are configured ;working perfectly until today afternoon.

All of a sudden lot of calls started coming to IT ROOM complaining about the lost of connection between dc and the clients.We checked the pc's in our IT ROOM for myself and colleague starting to troubleshoot from our pc's since we also lost the connectivity.

* ping not working from any pc to dc

* ping not working with default gateway from the pc's lost connection

*layer 2 connectivity is ensured OK by connecting my pc through live bootcd and ping works with dc,gateway ;I opted for live boot cd since I rebooted my pc and the dc couple of times ;no effect

*default gateway which is our ADSL ROUTER LAN IP is pinging from the DC and internet is working

*DC'S antivirus symantec endpoint protection is stand alone not in sync with the symantec server... and also a client pc which is loaded with kaspersky antivirus also having the same problem....so symantec endpoint protection server possibility can be isolated.

* Restarted the DC and chose last known good configuration also ; same symptom

* found one windows server 2003 loaded as a member server in the domain still working; pinging with the dc;able to access the folders in DC ; afraid to restart and check since on windows xp pc after restarting ; lost the connectivity

N.B: all the clients are getting IP from dhcp in DC

When pinging request timed out is the result and the gpresult of the client pc's give generic failure

The current problem is temporarily solved !!!

I need a permanent solution.

Is a firewall router for SBS 2008 important?

SBS Exchange issue

I'm migrating a sbs 2003 server to 2008 this week, everything reported it installed correctly however

When I go to migrate the exchange accounts I get the following:

MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make admin interface connection to server (hr=0x80040115, ec=-2147221227)

It appears when I look at the old server the Exchange Administrative group for exchange 2007 is missing? I cannot see the new server listed in the old first administractive group either? And the site connector is missing. The rest of the active directory appears to be ok. (and the public folders are sync'd) And I can move the offline address book ok.

Would you recommend uninstalling exchange 2007 and then reinstalling? Or is there another workaround?

Migration of sbs2003 to sbs 2008

In our company we have a windows SBS2003 PREMIUM server configured as domain controller with exchange 2003 & Blackberry enterprise server also loaded.We are planning to go for a new server with SBS 2011 standard with premium addons for sql support for ERP solutions to be implemented in near future.

We want to retain the old SBS2003 with AD only to be configured as newly (removing the current AD after migrating to new server,)exchange 2010 & Blackberry server for our company.

Anybody please advise us the procedure for migration as of I have seen in this forum coexisting sbs in single domain is not possible!

And another question also I have------- my old sbs 2003 server is with name as abc.xyz.com , the problematic name unforutunately given by the installers at the time they commissioned the old server.We have for our company a domain xyz.com hosted through third party service provider.So we have some mail related issues in our local exchange (to be brief in describing)due to the current sbs 2003 server naming as abc.xyz.com instead of abc.xyz.local as recommended by Microsoft,

To get rid of this problem of name also,I want to use abc.xyz.local for the new server to be installed.Please guide me in this regard

Migration issues

I'm trying to migrate a clients sbs2003 to sbs2008 and after logging into the sbs 2008 box it reports the installation failed.

However, AD is replicating as well as Exchange in installed, Sharepoint is installed but does not work. I've tried running some wisards, move data worked for everything apart from sharepoint data, when I run the internet setup task it reports it cannot configure and to run the repair wizards.

Can I reinstall the wizards and sharepoint? or does it mean a rebuild? I'm running a virtual sbs2003 as the client is using the same hardware for the 2008 box. So can I remove installed exchange/ad parts rather than restoring from tape? (which is out of action as its attached the 2008 box)

Hello David,

thanks for the great book. Especialy tipps and tricks like setting a second hostname are very helpful.

But this time i've got a strange problem. I'm migrating exchange mailboxes from sbs 2003 to sbs 2008 at the moment. The strange thing is that i can send emails from an mailbox on the sbs 2003 to an mailbox on sbs 2008 but not the other way. It seems like the routing group connector from sbs 2008 to sbs 2003 is not working as it should. Both routing group connectors are in place and i did not find any errors in the eventlog...

Do you have any recommendations?
