Graham,

This does not sound like a normal software bug. I would go for some addon software or a virus / rootkit that is doing this. My 1st impression is hardware, but since you have changed all this, I will go with malware.

How was the new system built -was it fresh from scratch or a disk clone? The later might preserve any nasty software .. otherwise it would point to it being elsewhere on the network.

This is very unlikely to be:

Office (unless there is an addon that is doing it)
Windows (unless there is a bad device driver)
normal software
Hardware (as you have changed it all)
Your Network
Your server (unless it is the thing with the malware on it)

Word 2003

I have a problem with a a client computer. It seems to be the only work station that does this. The problem is as the secretary types for no apparent reason the system starts to lock her out as if there is a key jammed on. It isnt always the same character. The solution is to eventually close the workstation down and restart. So far I have tried the following. Changed the keyboard and the mouse. uninstalled office 2003 and reinstalled it Removed the system and was about to reinstall XP Pro and start with a fresh copy. However the system left behind exhibited the same problem, and they are not idnetical. (current one is Dell replacement was a Fujitsu). rerouted the cable connection to the router, and used a different port on the router. deleted normal.dot and started with a fresh copy created a new SBS 2003 user profile. As Word is the main program I can not say if it would have displayed with any other application. The problem persists and is driving the poor woman to distraction and it isnt doing me much good either. Has anyone seen this before. I am relatively new to SBS2003 R2 and Office 2003. Any comments would be of use. Thanks Graham..
