I am in the process of quoting a customer for replacing thier existing SBS 2000 environment.

They want it now! If I buy SBS 2003 now is there any way I can buy it with an upgrade to 2008 included? Looks like 2008 will not be out for another 3 to 6 months and then I would be reluctant to supply it to a customer until at least 6 months of public useage had gone by.

Any advice gratefully received.

Not sure if this is a thread for the licensing part of the site but...

I have a client running Small Business Server Standard R1 and they would like to upgrade to SBS Premium R2.

I have found the upgrade pack (T75-01260) but.. do I need to now get Premium CALs or will the Standard SBS Cals work?

Also are there any issues to look out for from the vast knowledge that is UKSBSGUY forums!

Many Thanks

They have spent a reasonable amount of money, effectively for nothing and though it is their responsibility to investigate the licence agreements, I couldn’t help feeling sorry for them. I really think that the resellers should attach very loud and clear warnings as to the nature of the OEM licensed products.

Thursday was most useful, however I would like to ask the wider SBS Community where they purchase their licenses.

Currently I use www.ideal.co.uk which has a very useful quote generator
available which even calculates your mark-up and generates and end user
quote.

What experiences do any of the rest of you have?

Thanks for the feedback.

Software Assurance/Volume Licencing

I was quite pleased at the SBSC day to see how many other partners either don't use or don't understand the licensing options available to them

I consider myself to be pretty good technically but my lack of knowledge in this area is embarrasing and I really think I could be serving my customers better if I had a better knowledge of the options available. The ability to spread payments would certainly be attractive to many of my customers.

It was obvious from Daves presentation that he knows his stuff about licensing so I would like to ask if Dave(or anyone else for that matter) has any recommended reading to spell some of these things out to me more clearly.

How does the actual server box this work?

I guess I could call HP or Software Spectrum, but in the meantime, does anyone have any advice on how to get a server hosted?

I think vlad in the states is doing this sort of thing already, is there anyone this side of the pond?

Regards

Andrew
