  • Re: Slow system & a dodgy idea!

David, I was perhaps a little misleading in my response to you before. The policies tab is there, but the options are disabled, see screenshot here: www.accendo.co.uk/disk.JPG Maybe because windows does not have that leve of control of the disks because they are part of a hardware array?

David, This makes good sense and it is helpful to know you have done it before! Couple of things: I cannot change the write caching status of the disks from within Windows but I can change the setting in the BIOS of the raid controller. It is somewhat faster with it on than without it, but still is very slow. As you say the CPU overhead of software

  • Slow system & a dodgy idea!

I have a customer whom was supplied an SBS box by thier previous supplier. It is only a 5 user system but the system runs incredibly slow, particulary Exchange. Although the specification of the box is reasonable(Pentium 4 2.8GHz and 1.5GB Ram) performance has always been bad since the day it was installed. I have found other users with the same problem

  • Re: Document redirection - turn off for a single user

David, In response to your other post and this one I think group policy training or an in-depth overview would make for a fantastic training session. Though there are lot of great webcasts on it I think a lot of people could learn a great deal out of an in-person session, maybe even a hands on session. This is great stuff!

  • Re: SBS 2003 Migration to new hardware

I often make good margins on hardware and depening on how you approach it you should be able to as well. For example I recently purchased 35 Dell PCs, a server with SBS preloaded and some other network hardware. I made £50 each on the PCs and about £200 on the server. The customer paid me upfront and in return got them cheaper than the listed prices

I couldn't afford to stump up 5k for hardware either! I bought dual core 3.0ghz servers with 2x160gb and 1.5gb of ram from Dell, £500 each. I didn't get any operating systems or licences as I will use my action pack. The servers will be on thier own lan seperate from any other environment. Perfect environment for testing as I need to brush up on a few

Rich, I can't give you any useful information yet, but I have a customer with the same requirement. I have just bought a couple of servers for testing and I will be trying out various strategies in the next week or so to try and figure out the most painless method. I might even write something up based on my results. Paulie

  • Software Assurance/Volume Licencing

I was quite pleased at the SBSC day to see how many other partners either don't use or don't understand the licensing options available to them I consider myself to be pretty good technically but my lack of knowledge in this area is embarrasing and I really think I could be serving my customers better if I had a better knowledge of the options available
