  • Re: new sbs 2003 exchange problem

Sounds like a DNS issue. Rather than using DNS to send emails, use smarthosts Also check the DNS settings in AD, DHCP and DNS too as this is maybe the root of your problem Terry

  • Re: Implementing user-based internet access

The standard version doesn't give you any ability to control internet usage or block protocols, You either need ISA server which comes with the premium version, buy a 3rd party proxy sever or get a router with access control built in. I think some Belkin and Netgear routers will give you user access control including access schedules and port blocking

  • Re: Mailbox with no user account

I had considered using a public folder, but its required that 2 people only were added as delegates and that when they open their outlook, the marketing mailbox is opened in the folder list too. I had thought of a distribution group, but the 2 marketing people wanted 'marketing' emails to be kept separate from their regular emails. I have a

  • Mailbox with no user account

Seems odd I guess, but is there a way to create a mailbox on exchange without having to create a user first? I want to make an email address 'marketing' and make all emails available for the marketing team. I could assign this email address to an existing user and share their inbox, but don't want to. I could create a new user, but there's

  • Re: Duplicate SBS Backup Server

A clone shouldn't corrupt the AD or anything since its bit for bit copy of the original. I wonder if you have some bad blocks on the live server which are causing all your backup problems? Try a full chkdsk to see if there's anything wrong, but it will be out of hours check. Im still a fan of cloning, so if you can get your hands on ghost 2003

  • Re: Duplicate SBS Backup Server

Couple of things here, first one being licensing. Even if there's an offline server it will still need cals - but I suspect thats why you have a difference in licenses. If the backup server is 100% identical I would clone the OS drives rather than using NTBackup. Its possible that the new server is using different SIDs and this is why they can't

  • Re: Backup - The requested media failed to mount

I know you said it works manually, but trying dropping on a USB hard drive and create a new backup to point to that. Did that run over night? If so its an issue with the tape drive. if not, it could be an issue with power management or permissions (still) or a setting in the scheduled task. If your tape SCSI or USB? it could be that the powermanagement

  • Re: server non responsive - help

Backup programs will usually back up corrupt files. If it can be read it will backup. Run chkdsk for any errors or bad sectors as it sounds more like a drive or file structure issue. Tez
