Hi
We have an HP Storageworks DAT72, if I force a backup it works ok. If I leave it to run a backup overnight after a few hours of working it gives up and gives the "The requested media failed to mount" error
The full backup log is-

What is actually happening?? any idea why we get the error?
Thanks
Richard
Im guessing its something to do with the account ie, 'System'. I always run a backup as an administrator or an account with administrator level.
Edit the scheduled task to run as an administrator or similiar and it will run.

Thanks for the idea, but backup is already set as an administrator task.
The other thing is it does run most of the way through, if you look at the log I included you can see this
that is only one backup (the log all shows for the same date) - SBS built in backups do 3 runs - the drives, exchange and then the system state (If I remember correctly, perhaps there is more). I guess my questions would be 1) do you run out of media 2) what happens if you kick of a complete backup of Exchange, the drives and system state - does it error in any way? If you can't get to the bottom of this, log a call with Microsoft and get them to solve the problem. The £200 spent is well worth it versus loosing your company data.

I know you said it works manually, but trying dropping on a USB hard drive and create a new backup to point to that. Did that run over night? If so its an issue with the tape drive. if not, it could be an issue with power management or permissions (still) or a setting in the scheduled task.
If your tape SCSI or USB? it could be that the powermanagement is turning off the USB Hub. turn off the power management to the USB hub from device manager. Does the server go to sleep at night?
Have you got any restrictions on the backup such as end task after 4 hrs?
What happens if you manually create 3 seperate backups within NTBackup? would they still run?
Hope these help!
