Seems odd I guess, but is there a way to create a mailbox on exchange without having to create a user first?
I want to make an email address 'marketing' and make all emails available for the marketing team. I could assign this email address to an existing user and share their inbox, but don't want to. I could create a new user, but there's enough names already in AD and its a lot of hassle to log on as a user for almost a one off job (and there's CAL issues too).
If I could have a floating mailbox, I can then have any of the marketing team open the mailbox on outlook start up.
It seems a simple thing and it must be possible to do.

Hello,
do you want this to be an alias for one user or something everyone can see? If the later, then why not make it a public folder (assuming its just e-mail) and e-mail enable it?
thanks
David
I had considered using a public folder, but its required that 2 people only were added as delegates and that when they open their outlook, the marketing mailbox is opened in the folder list too.
I had thought of a distribution group, but the 2 marketing people wanted 'marketing' emails to be kept separate from their regular emails.
I have a feeling its not possible.

I still think that a public folder is the way to go - you can give people write access to the folder and then they open it when they want to the same way as they open another persons calendar.
Otherwise, if you use a d'list, a simple rule can put the mail somewhere else, but then no-one will know who has read what. With a PF this is solved too.
Otherwise you can create a new mailbox, since it is not for a user per say, CALs should not be an issue as the existing users cover them for as many mailboxes as they want.
