Skype vs Windows Messenger

As a rule I use my mobile to make calls - I know this makes me very 20th Century, but since I still listen to some 80's music, I guess we'll all just have to live with this.

When I have used various VoIP solutions I often find the mike on my PC has let me down (I often forget the headset) or the comms is just not up to it in the hotel I am staying in.

Having said that, many people use skpye.  When looking at this option again, I came across these blog entries which I thought game interesting food for thought. Do you read the EULAs??

Well said, finally someone willing to challenge Skype! It's bad because it uses a proprietary closed protocol and what can it interoperate with! The answer is itself!

Windows Messenger uses the SIP protocol which is an industry standard protocol for call handling. What I'd like to see is Windows Messenger be able to be configured as a standard SIP client.

Cheers,

Vijay

Vijay,

let me say that I believe this is coming, but today Live Communicator is the answer.

I'll do a little research on this and get back to you.

I notice on the article Why Skype is Bad that at the bottom of the page, Copyright Microsoft appears.  It's not biased then>?

if you still have this website....I have a stupid question - can you run BOTH Skype and Messenger on the same computer? because one friend has Messenger for his webcam, and another has Skype for hers - and I don't know what to do - I have Messenger and love it, no problems at all and don't want to change, but would try Skype if it wouldn't mess up the Messenger program! thanks for any info if you're still there!
