Upgrading to Office 2007 using retail boxes - what can you upgrade from

[updated to change blog title to something meaningful]

I was asked about this today - for those people with retail copies of Office, what can they upgrade from to Office 2007.  Full details on Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and the suites can be found at 2007 Microsoft Office system pricing - Products - Microsoft Office Online.  To see if you have a retail box of an earlier version of Office and if it will load without you needing to upgrade onto a new machine with Vista, have a look at http://uksbsguy.com/blogs/doverton/archive/2007/05/09/buying-vista-and-then-installing-an-old-version-of-office-whatare-you-allowed-to-do.aspx

Hey Dave - how are you?  Found your blog looking for Offivce upgrade paths - which of course aren't on the MS site.

Saw the doverton alias and wondered and as soon as I saw  the wallpaper I knew it was  you!!

Take care

Sandra

I currently have Home & Student Office 2007 installed, but have recently purchased Enterprise Office 2007 and am wondering how to instll it - do I need to uninstall H&S Office 2007 first (and if so how do I unregister it so I can re-use the license I free up), and the install Enterprise, or can I put Enterprise straight over thetop (and again how do I free up the H&S license)

Duncan,

uninstall all parts of Office H&S before loading enterprise.  You should not have to do anything to free the license, but if you hit a problem you will need to explain to the nice activation people you moved the product.  To the best of my knowledge, providing it is not OEM then this should be fine.

thanks

David

Bought and tried installing 2007 Home and Student for upgrade.  Have 2000 office and 2003 I think from download.  @007 started but stopped at error 1311, SKU112.cab missing.  What needs to be done to install 07 on Windows XP.  The old 2000 disc is permantly destroyed fromstepping on it and breaking it in too..  Got 2007 on sale for $99, so I do need the upgrade.  HELP!
